Vaccination rate has slowed down in the past few weeks in the US. And while President Biden has taken upon himself to release a vaccine mandate for companies with over 100 employees. However, since this mandate doesn’t cover most of the small and medium childcare businesses, childcare providers are left once again to the mercy of their state, local or community laws and the discretion of their childcare staff.

What is Vaccine Hesitancy?

World Health Organization (WHO) defines vaccine hesitancy as the “delay in acceptance or refusal of vaccines despite the availability of vaccine services.”

With only 55% of the total population vaccinated and 66% over 18 years old vaccinated, there is still much to be done to combat vaccine hesitancy and push the remaining segment of the eligible population to get their vaccine.

How to Convince Childcare Staff to Get Vaccinated

A year and a half into the pandemic, there are still people who are on the fence about getting vaccinated. While sharing science-based articles about vaccinations from reputable sources may help, these readings are still too impersonal and far-removed from the reality your childcare staff face.

To make a better case for vaccination, a personal recommendation can just do the trick. And it’s not just the recommendation of co-workers, neighbors, relatives or friends but from a trusted medical professional such as their personal doctor.

Research shows that a doctor’s personal recommendation to get the vaccine made more people follow the advice.

Coupled with a justification that it’s the best way to protect people close to them, people are more likely to proceed to get the vaccine.

Boost Their Resolve with Anecdotes from their Immediate Social Circle

While getting a doctor to personally recommend vaccination can steer your staff in the right direction, testimonials can also give them the extra push and boost their confidence in getting the vaccine.

Seeing people they know who got vaccinated and did not feel any significant adverse events can help quell their fears and doubts about the safety of the vaccine.

As they encounter more people in their social circle who have been vaccinated, healthy, thriving, and not suffering from any side effects, the more concrete and living evidence they have of the vaccine’s safety and efficacy.

For a COVID-19-Safe Workplace

As young children are yet to qualify for COVID-19 vaccines, it is up to adults to take the responsibility to get vaccinated and by extension, give protection to the children in their care. As a childcare provider, having childcare staff that’s 100% fully vaccinated decreases the possibility of coronavirus outbreaks in the facility and its severity if and when it infects a staff.

It gives everyone from childcare providers to staff, parents and their children peace of mind that there is a layer of protection that surrounds their child whenever they are at the care facility.
